The first time I said “mansplaining,” it did exactly what it was supposed to do.


He was explaining something I already knew. Not loudly. Not cruelly. Just with a confidence so assured it assumed I needed even the simplest things spelled out for me. As he spoke, I felt myself do the familiar thing: nod, wait, let him finish a thought I’d already finished in my head.

El Camino degree credit program undergoes rebranding

El Camino College is adding new services and rebranding its program that allows students to earn credits toward any degree of their choice.

The ECC Evolve initiative, a new version of its meta-major program previously known as Guided Pathways, was announced in the College Council meeting on May 20.

El Camino students win top honors at community college research conference

Two students from El Camino College garnered top awards at an event showcasing the academic talent of community college honors scholars.

El Camino students Afina Eull, 18, and Ibrahim Yaaseen, 19, both first-year students, received accolades for their research at the annual Honors Transfer Council of California conference.

The conference featured over 50 honors programs from California community colleges, each presenter hand-selected by the HTCC conference submission committee.

Stalking cases rise on campus

After a brief drop during the pandemic when El Camino College was closed, reports of stalking targeting female students on campus are rising again.

The crime log from El Camino College Police Department recorded three incidents of stalking on campus so far in 2024.

In 2019, there were 13 on-campus stalking Violence Against Women offenses reported, as well as five in 2020 and three in 2021, according to the 2022 El Camino Clery Crime Statistics.

Tangy soul food aromas weave through the air, blending with laughter and community conversation.
